 What is a carbohydrate? (b) Name two types of carbohydrates and give one example of each type.

Solution:
Carbohydrate is a compound that contains Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen, with the Hydrogen and Oxygen in the ratio of 2:1 as in water. 

(b) Types of carbohydrates with example are simple sugars, examples glucose, fructose, galactose (monosaccharides) and sucrose, maltose, lactose (disaccharides), complex sugars /non-sugar/polysaccharides example starch and cellulose
